DVG recently completed the competed the design and build for PBS Appalachia Virginia station located in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol and of the first all-digital public TV station in the nation to include broadcast and podcast studio and control room.
The studio includes three Hitachi (Kokusai Denki) Z-HD6500 HD cameras, Cartoni pedestals, and Cuescript teleprompters. The set design and lighting was supplied by FX Design with Ikan fixtures. The set includes an immersive 28’ x 9’ curved Philips LED wall with an overall resolution of 5376 x 1728 pixels. A Ross Xpression Tessera graphics engine and Novastar H2 processor provided the feeds to the LED wall. There was 86” Philips LCD monitor on another studio set. The Podcast studio included two Panasonic AW-UE150 PTZ cameras on Cartoni pedestals and audio production gear.
The local control room can be operated remotely from PBSA’s sister station facility, Blue Ridge PBS in Roanoke, VA.
The technical core system included Ross Carbonite Ultra production switcher, Allen and Heath SQ-5 audio mixer, Ross Xpression CG and Xpression Tessera graphics, Ross Tria video server, AJA KiPro Ultra 12G recording, Ross Ultrix FR2 video router and multiviewer, Clear-Com intercom, Leader test and measurement, Ross fiber transmission, and IWD operating consoles.
